This sculpture features two stunning ammonite fossils with hand inlaid ammolite in the ammonite's individual chambers creating a luminous, radiant rainbow. The rosewood and obsidian base is an elegant support reminiscent of structures in the sea, where these creatures once lived. Ammonite were part of the cephalopod family during the Mesozoic Era, dating these fossils at the least 66 million years old. Under great pressure and surrounded by the right minerals, ammonite will start to form platelets of minerals giving it an opal like iridescence. The fossil is now called an ammolite. As you walk past this sculpture you'll notice its chromatic shift, the colors will change depending on the your position and the angle of light. This sculpture shines so brightly, it almost looks as if there is a light within the fossil.
