Fossil Walrus Ivory Link Necklace By Edward Lawrence, Necklace Length: 16.5"
This necklace takes remarkable craftsmanship. It started as one long piece of fossilized walrus ivory found in St Lawrence Island, Alaska. Each link is individually carved and separated from the main piece until the necklace is completed. The different colors are from the fossilization process where the ivory is soaking up minerals from the earth, which can take 100s to 1,000s of years.
Each of Edward Lawrence's pieces are one of a kind, signed, and numbered.
“I get my ideas from the materials. Form follows function has always been a part of my technique. The whole concept is to transform the materials into something you can relate to and wear. They become a part of your life. The designs can be ethnic to modern, funky to architectural. The pieces design themselves.”
