The Chinese name Guanyin is short for Guanshiyin, which means "The One Who Perceives the Sounds of the World." She is also known as the goddess of mercy in Buddhism. The dragon is symbolic of rage, anger, jealousy. The presence of Guanyin and the dragon symbolizes conquering those three afflictions of the mind.
